Conclusion
Grenouille’s behavior mirrored that of sub-sentient creatures. He paid no mind to social structures, ethical behavior, or a moral compass. He believed merely in the power of scent, and his world revolved around anything pertaining to smell. He saw nothing wrong with his actions, for to him, he was only doing what his subconscious mind was dictating. His entire upbringing revolved around the concept of survival of the fittest; that the meek will falter while the strong prevail. Grenouille’s talent proved to him that it was the power of scent that kept him alive, so it was the power of scent itself which gave life. When Grenouille was creating scent, he was creating life. In his mind, he was the most innocent person of all.
